Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Association currently active?

ACPAFP is currently in a dormant mode.

The Board met in January, before the AICPA PFP conference, as a
follow up to our October membership meeting in Chicago. At these
meetings, we spent a good bit of time discussing the current
status of the PFS designation, the activities of the AICPA, and the
role and purpose of the ACPAFP.

The Board decided to put the ACPAFP into a “dormant” mode
because, at this time, any efforts we could undertake as an
organization would be duplicative of the AICPA efforts toward the
promotion and enhancement of the PFS.

As a result of this view, the Board approved the following:
  • To reduce the size of the board from 11 down to 6.

  • To minimize the annual expenses of the organization
including using a much less expensive website, not
holding an annual membership meeting with CPE, and
maintaining a simple spreadsheet with member
    information.

  • To gradually use our reserves to benefit the AICPA PFS
program. We will commit up to 20k per year to enhance
aspects of the PFS designation with specifics to be
    determined by the ACPAFP board.

The Board will hold a conference call to discuss the current status
by June 30, 2008 and plans to meet annually at the PFP
conference to assess the PFS environment.

We appreciate all of your support of the ACPAFP over the past
years.  Our efforts had a significant impact on the direction of the
PFS and played a critical role in keeping the designation alive in
the AICPA.

Please feel free to contact any of the Board members with your
ideas and suggestions.

Is this Association supporting a fee-only practice
model?

No.  The PFS designation is open to CPA financial planners that
meet the AICPA's required credential criteria.  Method of
compensation is not a factor to membership in the ACPAFP.
